Welcome! We are a small Dexter ranch located on a beautiful piece of land in the Buffalo Ridge area of eastern South Dakota, near the Minnesota border. The Monighan Creek flows through our property to the east working its way towards the Minnesota River.
Our small acreage and love of cattle brought us to the Dexter breed not only for their milk and beef, but their great temperament and ease of handling. Dexters are great for kids and provide great opportunities for our kids to gain cattle experience from these easy-going bovines. We are a family of eight, with 6 kids who are blessed with the opportunity to work with and show cattle.
We purchased our first Dexter heifers in 2007, added a couple cows and herd bull in 2008, and have utilized artificial insemination to bring additional genetics into our herd. Each year we look forward to calving season and deciding which new heifers will stay around and become additions to the herd, and also which bull calves have herd bull potential.
Some of our main goals are to select for a docile, polled herd that maintains a dual purpose makeup. We enjoy both the fresh milk and the tasty beef that our herd provides for the family. We are members of the American Dexter Cattle Association and thoroughly enjoy raising this wonderful breed of cattle. We'll be updating this site as the herd continues to grow and change- Thanks for visiting!
